Starting on a meagre salary of Re. 1 on his arrival in the state, Shradhay Onkar Mall Goenka established the over Onkar group in early 1956 with the Auto Finance business. In no time, Onkarmull Shankarlal was recognized as one of the leading auto financers in eastern India with over 20000 customers in a short span.

The business passed into the able hands of Prahalad Roy Goenka from 1975. He has been the driving force behind expanding and diversifying the business into several verticals such as construction, mining, beneficiation and export. The growing business received assistance when Gagan Goenka joined it in 2001 at the tenda age of 16. A commerce graduate from St. Xavier's College, kolkata, he brought a fresh perspective to existing business.  The entrepreneur added yet another vertical to the diversified group business, textiles. In 2003, the group set up Eastern India’s first embroidery machinery and is currently the only one equipped to have a combination machine which enables them to put sequence, beads and cord on the fabric. In 2008, he started a digital printing unit and by 2009 he has opened India’s first exclusive digital print studio.
