Onkar Ispat Ltd. a unit of Onkar Group is expected to commence from 2010.

Core competencies:  Integrated steel plant with raw material security from its group company.

Competitive edge:  Growing GDPs, rising infrastructure demands, promising real estate development all translate into a bountiful need for steel.  Onkar Ispat is geared to meet this need through an integrated 1 MTPA steel plant in the resource rich state of West Bengal.  The proposed plant is under a joint venture with Sinosteel India Pvt. Ltd. (a government entity in China) and aims to cater to the downstream need of the construction industry. The products will include pig iron, TMT bars, mild steel ingots, structural steel products, wire rods among others.

The company has applied for the necessary quality and environmental certifications. The products would be ISO 9001 and 9002 certified. They would be available in two grades; normal and wear resistant. On the environmental front the plant would be a zero discharge unit and would have a captive power plant of 135 MW.

Going forward, the company has the potential to become a landmark project in Bengal’s steel making history.
